Developers IO Interactive concluded the latest Hitman trilogy in style with a confident, clever refinement of the groundwork laid by the previous entries.
The Hitman games have always played out like delightfully macabre adventure games. Instead of traditional puzzles like "use maple syrup on cat hair" or "use breadcrumbs on balloon" (yes, those are real puzzle solutions), players in Hitman find themselves contemplating conundrums with solutions such as "use poison with martini" and "feed psychopath to hippo".
Hitman 3 starts off by letting you sabotage your targets' parachutes and watch them plummet to their doom, and only gets better from there. IO Interactive, the twisted geniuses behind Agent 47's misadventures, are on stunning form here and challenge their follically-challenged protagonist with some of their best work yet.
This is best exemplified by Dartmoor, where Agent 47 has to assassinate a target during an active murder investigation in an English manor straight out of an Agatha Christie book. It's the sort of twisted genius you only see from developers operating at the peak of their powers and bodes well for IO's upcoming take on 007.
