14 Fan-Made Sonic Games That Succeed Where Sega Failed

7. Super Sonic Adventure 2 - The New Challengers

One of the only games on this list that isn't actually a free game. The sarcastically named Super Sonic Adventure 2 is a free modification that mocks the Street Fighter franchise's history of expanding rosters.

It should come as no surprise that SSA2:TNC does exactly that, expanding the playable roster.

By slightly modifying Sonic Adventure 2's levels accordingly, the player can hold the shoulder buttons during load screens to play as all of the multiplayer-exclusive characters during single player missions. This means that you can, as an example, play Sonic's levels as Shadow, Amy Rose, and Metal Sonic, effectively tripling the game's replayability with new playstyles.

The one drawback is that this modification requires Sonic Adventure 2 HD on Steam, and therefore, is the only game on this list that technically isn't free. Shame, that.

SSA2:TNC can be downloaded from the mod's SonicRetro info page. This modification requires Sonic Adventure 2 on Steam.
