14 Incredible Video Game Stories You'll Never Stop Discussing
12. Bastion
Why hasn't Bastion's narrator been hired to be the new film voiceover guy? In this world of trailers having to show rather than tell, are we the only ones who miss having a badass narrator allude to everything instead? Anyway, SuperGiant Games' first major work was a tremendous success both critically and with gamers - although it remains one of those titles you just know you're supposed to check out and rarely do. Well, for those that have Bastion's tale of "a boy and his hammer" rebuilding a lost world destroyed by the mysterious Calamity is one overflowing with charm and beautiful little touches. Things like telling the story of your silent protagonist by way of a narration that unfolds as you battle through one of the side-mission combat arenas is just genius (if you lose, you're losing more than just tiers of combat), along with a unique pacing that tucks away aspects of the narrative behind specific items, dialogue options and unlockable character-buffs.
