15 Best Months To Be A Gamer (Since 2000)

With 172 to pick from, which months had the best collections of killer titles all releasing within days of each other?

There's an old cliché about waiting ages for a bus in London before two arrive at the same time - you'd be forgiven for thinking the same thing about video games. The summer tends to be a big drought for gaming as developers ready titles for the pre-Christmas rush. However, as a result several big titles will be released in quick succession in the colder months of the year, leaving us with plenty to look forward to all at once.

In fact, it's interesting to look back across the history of video gaming and see just how often this occurs. Several huge titles were released on the exact same day, let alone the same week or month. It might surprise you to find out just how close together certain titles launched.

So, to highlight these exciting gaming launch windows, we looked back at every month from the year 2000 to try and find the best fifteen months to be a gamer. Every month on this list features a range of excellent video games which divided our attention as well as emptying our wallets. Of course, with the nature of video game releases, there's an awful lot of Octobers and Novembers featured, but in the interest of balance we've tried to add a variety of months to show a spread across the year.

To back up our claims, we also researched each game on Metacritic and provided an average score for the month, based on the three most acclaimed games. It shows just how many great games there have been over the course of these 14 and a half years and it also highlights how the balance of review scores has slowly changed in that time too.

Of course, this is just a small sample of the 172 months which we could have picked from, so if you have any ideas to add, please feel free to leave them in the comments below.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
