15 Best Open-World Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
10. Red Dead Redemption
Rockstar are just the kings of this stuff - or at least, they're the guys who reign over everyone else when it comes to releasing landmark title after landmark title, anyway. Red Dead remains - by my money - their greatest effort so far, and one of the finest games of all time, not to mention holding its own on a purely mechanical level as an impeccable open-world experience. Even the story's finest hour (the entirely optional last mission to track down your father's killer) is predicated on you acting on your open-world inhibitions to do so. The world itself is set in the American Wild West of 1911, alongside featuring one hell of a fantastic level where you attempt to make the border-cross to Mexico with nothing more than a sizeable barge and your collection of firearms. RDR's highs are so well done you'll already be remembering them now, and if you've somehow overlooked this masterpiece well, it's time to remedy that as soon as possible.
