5. Winning Your First Liberation - Pyre

Pyre is an outstanding game in every respect; a wonderful combination of talk-heavy character building and a unique NBA Jam-style 'dunk the orb in the goal to score!' set of sports set-pieces.

However, whilst you'll spend hours being introduced to characters, world landmarks and team abilities, the best part is - it's ALL part of the tutorial. The first major plot beat comes when you realise that all your exiled wasteland-dwellers can be freed, one at a time, by winning a special match called a Liberation.

Soon you're assessing your roster both as characters and usefulness on the field, realising that once the bout is over, you'll not only have lost someone close, but perhaps also a key member of your particular team strategy.

Still, it's because of all this narrative weight that each match in Pyre means something, and being able to grant freedom to one of your favourites is an initially bittersweet feeling that ultimately feels very rewarding.
