The game taught players to value their in game health and lives before unlimited respawns became the norm, as the player would have to restart if you lost your three lives or turned off your console in between levels, leading to a greater sense of caution and appreciation for armour and health because death had - surprise surprise - consequences. The lack of real clues or hints on the direction you should be going and the difficulty of getting to a lot of the dungeons makes this easily the hardest game in the Zelda franchise.
