15 Insane E3 Announcements That Would Shock The World

9. A Kickstarter-Funded Shenmue III Is Announced

The Announcement: Almost 15 years after Shenmue II was first released, following numerous attempts to get a third game made, series director Yu Suzuki takes to the stage to announce that Shenmue III will be happening, as long as fans support a Kickstarter campaign which launches immediately following his announcement. How Likely Is It?: 3/10. As passionate and hopeful as Shenmue fans are about a third game being made, it's unlikely that Kickstarter could result in sufficient funds being raised to make the game in a way that it can live up to the previous two (according to Suzuki, Shenmue cost $67 million in today's money). Plus, there's no doubt the worry that the market simply won't accommodate the title, because it'll be tough to sell the game to the uninitiated, and many fans of the game 15 years ago may simply have moved on or lost interest. Never say never, and it would certainly result in an all-timer E3 moment, but don't count on it.
