6. Ace Combat: Assault Horizon

Namco's Ace Combat series, a flight sim that meshes arcade-style controls and realistic flight, is set in the fictional, war-torn world of Strangereal, an alternate earth. The games follow fictional countries such as Belka, Osea, and Yuktobania, and the legends and lives of pilots that fight their wars for them.

Just like Konami thought with Bomberman, however, Namco's Assault Horizon would see it more fit to appeal to the western, Call of Duty loving demographic, taking place in a more typical war of Americans fighting Russians.

It also brought with it a new "Dogfight Mode", where players would have their controls taken away from them to instead focus on a one-on-one chase with cool explosions and scripted maneuvers, turning a flight sim into the equivalent of a Michael Bay explosion flick.

Throw in a few boring bomber run and helicopter missions, and you have the black sheep of the franchise.
