15 New Video Game Heroes - Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Wei Shen (Sleeping Dogs)

Sleeping Dogs
Square Enix

The world is yet to see a brilliant Fast & the Furious or Point Break game, but the whole 'cop goes undercover and slowly loses their allegiance' setup is a tale as old as time. For Sleeping Dogs it's applied to Hong Kong, seeing you play as the phenomenally well-voiced and all-round likeable hero, Wei Shen.

Gameplay is enjoyably arcady, a potent mix of Batman Arkham-like combat, The Wheelman-esque driving and run n' gun segments all blending into one. It thunders along at a brilliant pace precisely because of Shen though, who thanks to Will Yun Lee's confident line reads and Shen's ability to not crack under pressure, makes for one of the most gripping crime thriller narratives in all of gaming.

Oh, and this is still an open-world game, so tomfoolery like the above is still on the table (providing you don't want to get marked down for un-cop like behaviour).

Never ask Wei Shen who he is...
