15 Reasons Why Psychonauts Is The Greatest Game Ever Made

4. The Gameplay

Unlike some Double Fine games (*cough* Brutal Legend *cough*), Psychonauts doesn€™t suffer in the gameplay department. It doesn€™t spread itself too thin trying to accommodate multiple gameplay elements (like Brutal Legend), it doesn€™t oversimplify its core mechanics (like Costume Quest), and it doesn€™t rely solely on story and charm to compensate for a lack of gameplay innovation (like Broken Age). On the contrary, Psychonauts is the complete package. Not only does it tell its story delightfully, but it plays wonderfully: the controls are great, the platforming never feels awkward or unintuitive, the levels are intelligently designed and easy to traverse, movement of the character feels natural and spontaneous, running and jumping feels instinctive and the variety of power-ups keeps everything fresh and exciting throughout.
