Speaking of shoe-ins, a return to the arcade sports of yesteryear is long overdue, both in racing circles as we could do with a new Burnout, and here, where an "NBA Street Vol. 4" would've gone down a storm.

Now, this isn't to say that NBA Playgrounds is completely without merit. Slapping the ball out of an opponent's hands, dribbling between your legs and launching yourself across the court to shake the screen with a raucous dunk feels phenomenal - it's just the mechanics connecting that tissue together don't always feel right.

Case in point: The shot meter. Multiple patches have attempted a permanent fix, yet it still seems impossible to perfect. There's nothing worse than opening up a lane and going for a three-pointer, nailing the power-to-distance ratio - only to bounce off the rim or fly right past.

Character models fall on the wrong side of emulating bobble-heads, there's barely any campaign/single player progression to speak of, and matches tend to devoid into steal/sprint/shoot back n' forths. It's a missed opportunity, but one that shows how things could be done in a future sequel.
