The dust may still be settling from E3 just two months ago, but the annual Gamescom trade event in August always functions as a welcome catch-up ahead of the gaming onslaught which ruins everyone's wallets near the end of the year in the run-up to Christmas. It may not feature as many conferences or insane reveals as the gaming industry's flagship show, but in recent years it's grown in prevalence due to some unexpected release date announcements, gameplay reveals and so on. This year saw some of the most anticipated upcoming games make their gameplay debuts, several long-awaited games finally get a release (though not Final Fantasy XV, sadly), and even the shock announcement of one title fans have been craving for years. The future's looking very bright (not to mention expensive) for gaming, and if even half of these games can manage to live up to their hype, there's going to busy keeping us glued to our consoles and PCs for the foreseeable future.
