18 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Uncharted Series
6. The Uncharted Film Is In Development Hell
An Uncharted movie has been in the works for many years, and despite it being a relatively simple concept that draws direct inspiration from cinema, it still remains in development hell.
The film adaptation was first announced in 2008, and in 2010, David O. Russell - director of the acclaimed film The Fighter - was brought on to write and direct, with Mark Wahlberg to play Nathan Drake. However, Russell’s take strayed too far from the source material, and he eventually dropped out. Limitless director Neil Burger was then hired to direct in 2011 with Bradley Cooper rumoured to play Drake, though he dropped out just a year later.
Production changed hands yet again, this time to Seth Gordon, but in 2015 he also left due to creative differences. Despite these constant production woes, Sony still insists the Uncharted movie will be made. It even has a release date of June 3'0th, 2017, which at this point it has no chance of meeting.
For now, it continues to float in limbo with no immediate signs of moving forward any time soon.
