12. Battleborn
Is it possible to make something crazier and more inventive than Borderlands? Well, creators of that now-monolithic Destiny-bothering franchise Gearbox thinks so, and rather than rest on their laurels and kick out more of the same, they're dividing the core team up and cranking up the crazy for Battleborn, a new character-based arena-shooter that simply sweats charm and identity. Clearly borrowing quite liberally from the Team Fortress 2 chapter of Valve's book on game design, the whole thing looks to move at a blistering pace, thanks to Pixar-esque animation making every frame pop gleefully along the way. With a meld of first and third person gameplay - the latter being reserved for special attacks and context-specific prompts - there's a touch of Bungie's latest in here, but it's that exquisite animation and generally fun approach to the whole project that make this a winner already. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-Hx2oajXao
