Persona is probably one of the only JRPG series to currently rival Final Fantasy in terms of its popularity in the West. Debuting in 1996, the initially niche series centres on a group of students, usually led by a silent protagonist. For many, Persona 5 represents the pinnacle of the series to date, and its popularity pushed the series into the mainstream. With a stylish art style and killer soundtrack awaiting them, Persona 5 players will spend most of their time either engaging in thrilling dungeon crawls brimming with turn-based combat or managing the social simulation side of the game which takes place in a high school.

Persona 5 is also one of the meatiest RPGs on the market, with an average playthrough clocking in anywhere between a whopping 80-120 hours, depending on your playstyle and penchant for side quests. This runtime acts as both a gift and a curse, and for first time players diving in, it could prove an extremely overwhelming proposition. For some, that many hours represents great value, and they will happily devote the time needed to finish it. Others, who may have less time on their hands? Not so much.

Then there's the balance between the dungeon crawling and the social sim sides of the game. They are split almost perfectly evenly, which may have actually caught some off guard initially. Those who dived into Persona 5 expecting an action-packed JRPG may have found themselves asking why they were spending so much time running round a high school during the daytime hours forming bonds and building relationships, with not a battle in sight.

These initial problems combined meant that some players could've been tempted to drop Persona 5 long before they got to see the credits roll. This would've been a huge mistake though, and would've robbed them of one of the best JRPG experiences on the market to date. Thankfully, many of these initial realizations were quickly overcome, with the players initially concerned about the game's length or its social sim elements quickly falling in love with the whole package. 100 hours later, they will probably have been wishing it was even longer.
