20 Best Cutscenes In The Metal Gear Solid Franchise

4. The End - MGS3

The best boss battle in the entire Metal Gear series is with The End. The elderly, photosynthetic sharpshooter provides a hefty challenge for even the most proficient of players. The old man is driven by ‘one final hunt’ and Snake is his prey.

However, by using the often discussed cheeky tactic of saving the game and returning a week later to conquer the cunning old codger, players will also be treated to a fantastic cutscene. Having kept The End for too long, Snake has gotten the upper hand on his forest-attired foe by letting him die of old age.

The cutscene is short but sweet (what a relief!) when Snake repeats for the old man to drop his weapon. Snake calls Zero for assistance and confesses feeling a little guilty for denying The End one last hunt.

Snake walks away from the old man’s corpse before it explodes with one final whisper of ‘end!’

This cutscene remains popular with fans of the series, as it highlights the different ways Kojima and the MGS team tried to remain inventive in their storytelling. Regardless of whether an actual battle was fought, Zero was right when he declared to Snake: ‘victory is yours!’
