20 Best Nintendo Switch Games Of 2017

11. Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Nintendo

Just when you thought the year was done, Nintendo release another hundred-hour long RPG to contend with The Legend of Zelda - though such comparisons are only applicable if we're talking about "most gorgeously epic open worlds".

Indeed, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is as old-school RPG as they come - albeit with auto-attacks and meter-burns rather than turn-based combat. This latter approach means you'll cakewalk the majority of initial fights, but such a deceptively simple setup gives way to far more variables once you start factoring in position on the battlefield, power-ups and signature abilities.

Just as a world where every facet feels enjoyably experimental and pure fantasy, the opening alone has young boy Rex diving for salvage amongst liquid clouds, riding a giant vehicular dinosaur named Gramps and meeting up with a number of talking cats to trade parts and acquire quests.

It's delightful, reminiscent of the 90s RPG boom we all remember with such fondness, and has more character and charm than the last five Final Fantasies combined.

Just be sure to download the optional Japanese audio track for dialogue. Those English dubs are awful.
