8. God Of War II (2007)

The second instalment in the GOW series starts exactly where the first one left off, as Kratos has become the new God of War after killing Ares. Kratos descends from the heavens while the city of Rhodes is about to fall. As he assists in the siege, the towering colossus of Rhodes is imbued with life and so begins one of the most memorable boss battles in video game history.

Its moments like these that you would think are scarce but they're common throughout the story, with each new encounter as memorable as the last. As the game progresses the wow factor is ramped up to the max. Kratos is pitted against the Kraken, the Sisters of Fate and to top it all off: Zeus. Zeus is put to the forefront as the story’s main antagonist and he makes for such a great villain, as he exudes omnipotence and arrogance at the same time.

Additionally, Santa Monica Studios also improved on the graphics and camera control. For example, when Kratos encounters the titan Kronos, the camera pans back and far away from Kratos for the player to fully appreciate the details in the graphics and in the scene as well.
