13. My Friend Pedro

Sometimes you just need a thoroughly badass 2D shooter to cleanse the mind.

Some dual-wielding, a pounding synthwave soundtrack, an abundance of slow-motion and plenty of excuses to combine the three - My Friend Pedro is like a whole game of that lobby fight from The Matrix.

Everything is geared up for maximum memorability, as your character's movement jolts and contorts to match controller inputs no matter what. This means you can redirect locomotion on a dime, bounce off walls, slide under cover and backflip across the screen in one giant, over-animated blur of bullets, high-kicks and claret.

My Friend Pedro is the nearest thing to a reimagining of Hotline Miami's most freewheeling moments, and though its story takes a backseat to the action, the latter is just stupidly good fun.
