20 Best Video Games Of The Generation (So Far)
10. Titanfall 2
Battlefield and Call of Duty are all well and good, but there's a substantial uptick in quality to what Respawn have created that's just head, shoulders and a full mech above the competition.
Playing like everything the newer Call of Duties have tried and failed to make comfortable, you can master both the ground game, run on walls, hover in mid-air and call in your mech in a seamless blur of animations, these actions playing out within seconds of one another. And therein lies why Titanfall 2 is such an accomplished game in a purely tactile sense: Every part of its gameplay feels play-tested and passionate, designed to please and engage you, not just trotted out because "It's that time of year again".
Respawn themselves are headed up by ex-Infinity Ward guys Jason West and Vince Zampella i.e. the chaps who helped make Modern Warfare one of the best video games of all time. Here they knew precisely what to do when it came to injecting innovation into a core military shooter, and with a more focused weapon roster, class abilities and those ludicrously powerful mechs, Titanfall 2 is one of the best shooters of all time. Period.
