Black Op 6 had the largest launch weekend in Call of Duty history and was most lucrative video game in the United States in 2024. As a result, the future couldn't have looked brighter for the iconic war shooter.

But, oh, how the mighty have fallen. Black Ops 7 was torn apart for its unfinished campaign, which had uninspired missions, a disconnected story, and inconsistent checkpoints. It required a constant online connection (even on solo play) which proved to be extremely unreliable.

The multiplayer was equally underwhelming, thanks to the frame-rate drops, lagging performances, and inconsistent matchmaking. Also, the devs really thought players wouldn't notice that a large chunk of the content was recycled from earlier entries. When it became common knowledge that several art assets were created with generative AI, players responded with review-bombing and boycotts. The hatred towards Black Ops 7 is so intense, it makes the reaction towards Infinite Warfare generous by comparison.

According to reports, the latest COD entries could've lost the studio a whopping $300 million, which is hard to fathom.
