20 Disappointing Video Games That Didn't Fulfil Their Potential

14. Too Human

Too Human
Silicon Knights

Every project that Silicon Knights made was always super ambitious. From melting gamers’ minds with Eternal Darkness on the GameCube to letting us create our own mutant in X-Men: Destiny. But there’s always been something missing from them, none more so than Too Human. Set in a futuristic sci-fi world where Norse Gods are essentially cyborg warriors, you play as Baldur, who’s tasked with protecting the world from Loki’s robot army. Yes, it’s insane, yes, it’s awesome.

Too Human was originally announced in 1999 for a release on the PlayStation, but it then went through nearly 10 years of development hell, which is quite funny to think that 10 years used to be considered ‘stuck in development hell’. It jumped from the PlayStation to the GameCube and eventually found its home on the Xbox 360. Because of this, it’s no surprise that Too Human launched in the state it did. It suffered from an awful camera, more bugs than you’d find under a wet rock and missing content.

While in 2008, it wasn’t incredibly common that games would receive major updates to fix bugs, but the 360 was the generation where this all started. Maybe with a couple of fixes to the combat and camera, we wouldn’t be in this mess of a situation. Too Human was also the first in a planned trilogy, which obviously never came to be, so maybe we could’ve wrapped up loose story ends with an extensive DLC drop down the line.

Hey, I’m Matt. I work full-time at WhatCulture's neighbours, MyVoucherCodes. I first joined MyVoucherCodes as a Deals Expert, scouring the internet, leaving no stone unturned in finding the best discount codes, sales and offers for our customers. Moving into my first home during the worst possible time (during lockdown), I understand the necessity of saving money when the purse strings are tight. Outside of saving money, I’m into video games, movies, books and music. I host and edit a video game podcast called The Retry Hard Podcast, where my friend and I go through news, reviews and video games in general. I love movies and watching how they’re made, and I’ve worked as a set decorator for a few months on His Dark Materials season 3, which gave me a massive insight into how it all comes together. I also put out music as a solo artist named Matt Kiano, where I won the award for Best Male Artist of 2025 for Radio Wigwam and have been nomiated for Best Live Act at the 2026 Radio Wigwam Awards.
