20 Cult-Classics Trapped On Old Consoles

10. Silent Hill

Silent Hill 1
Silent Hill

Let’s not beat around the bush. Silent Hill fans have had it good as of late. From the excellent Silent Hill 2 remake (that has completely ruined hospitals for me, not that I liked them anyway, but still) to a completely original take with Silent Hill f. Konami recently announced that Bloober Team will be remaking the first entry in the Silent Hill franchise, which, believe it or not, will actually be the second remake the game has had.

And remakes can be fantastic. When executed right, they can be a great way for newcomers to hop into a series without worrying about outdated mechanics and poor visuals. But for those who look at remakes and say, “yeah, that’s great, but where are my fixed camera angles”, nothing can quite beat the original game.

Even with Silent Hill 2, there’s quite a big section of the audience that will still argue the original does certain things better than the remake. So while we wait for the next Silent Hill remake, why not take a trip down memory lane and experience the original again?

Disappointingly, the original was available on the PlayStation Store for the PS3 generation but has since been removed. So, unless you want to dust off that old PlayStation 1, all we can do is sit and wait for the remake.

Hey, I’m Matt. I work full-time at WhatCulture's neighbours, MyVoucherCodes. I first joined MyVoucherCodes as a Deals Expert, scouring the internet, leaving no stone unturned in finding the best discount codes, sales and offers for our customers. Moving into my first home during the worst possible time (during lockdown), I understand the necessity of saving money when the purse strings are tight. Outside of saving money, I’m into video games, movies, books and music. I host and edit a video game podcast called The Retry Hard Podcast, where my friend and I go through news, reviews and video games in general. I love movies and watching how they’re made, and I’ve worked as a set decorator for a few months on His Dark Materials season 3, which gave me a massive insight into how it all comes together. I also put out music as a solo artist named Matt Kiano, where I won the award for Best Male Artist of 2025 for Radio Wigwam and have been nomiated for Best Live Act at the 2026 Radio Wigwam Awards.
