20 Cult-Classics Trapped On Old Consoles
5. Resident Evil Outbreak
For years, Capcom has been trying to make ‘multiplayer Resident Evil’ the next big thing, with nearly every new game having some kind of multiplayer offering. We’ve seen Resident Evil Resistance, Resident Evil Re:Verse, and Umbrella Corps, just to name a few.
None of these games ever cracked the code as to what a multiplayer Resident Evil game should be, and all eventually shut down. But what if Capcom got it right the first time around? Resident Evil Outbreak is a classic old-school style Resident Evil game, much like the Resident Evil 1 Remake, but with the added twist of playing through that experience with friends. Think of running through the Spencer Mansion or the Raccoon City Police Station, but with a few buddies, and you’re there.
Receiving middling to good reviews, it sits at a fairly decent 71 on Metacritic. Fans seemed pretty happy with this entry, but unfortunately, its online servers were disabled in 2007, and it has stayed trapped on the PlayStation 2. So if Capcom ever want to dip their toes into the multiplayer world again, we’ll happily take a new Outbreak game rather than another (I shudder thinking of this) Umbrella Corps.
