20 Cult-Classics Trapped On Old Consoles

6. Wolfenstein 2009

Long before we were bulldozing our way through a horde of Nazis in Machine Games’ Wolfenstein: The New Order, we had the often forgotten about Wolfenstein 2009. Developed by Raven Software, known for cult classics such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (more on that later) and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

You play as surprise, surprise, William B.J. Blazkowicz as you, yep, you guessed it, kill a bunch of Nazis. But this time, it’s a little different. Now we’re all used to our Wolfenstein games featuring alternative takes on history, from mech dogs to a Nazi base on the moon, but this entry introduced something called ‘the Veil’. The Veil is a space between our world and the Black Sun, which is a whole different story. The Veil gives players a whole range of new abilities, such as running faster, temporary invincibility and higher weapon damage.

If this all sounds interesting to you, well, you’re out of luck, as Wolfenstein was delisted from all digital platforms in 2014 due to Activision losing the rights to the franchise. And with no news about a future Wolfenstein game, we’d love an excuse to jump back in.
