10. Can't Recruit Alfira - Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur Gate 3’s companions are a colorful bunch of characters with unique backstories, motivations, and roles in your party. It feels as though you are spoiled for choice with who you can travel with, and yet there is still a huge community of fans that feels unfairly restricted due to one potential companion being teased but never actually recruitable.
Alfira is the lovable tiefling bard that the player meets early in Act 1. The girl has a heartwarming interaction where you help her finish a song in honor of her deceased teacher, which, combined with her sweet and optimistic attitude, makes a lot of players fall in love with her character.
And this is what makes the next plot twist so devastating.
When you play as the Dark Urge, the game features an event where Alfira comes to your camp and asks if she can join your party. This obviously sounds incredibly thrilling for Alfira fans, until you discover the next day that your character’s violent urges made them brutally murder your would-be companion.
The scene breaks people’s hearts for two reasons. One is Alfira's awfully violent demise, and the other is the fact that the game makes you think you can finally have the bard in your party, only to limit her appearance to one gruesome surprise.
