Terminator 2: Judgment Day is widely hailed as the greatest cinematic sequel ever and the greatest action film ever, so it’s no surprise that it’s referenced in many other properties. From Wayne's World 2 and Hot Fuzz to Rick and Morty and Mortal Kombat 1, James Cameron’s adrenaline-fueled yet highly emotional masterpiece pops up in all sorts of other places.

Given its nonstop orgy of awesome action, it’s only natural that 2016’s Doom reboot also references Terminator 2, right? Specifically, it offers a basic but undeniably fun and endearing nod to the movingly iconic climax of the movie.

As its name suggests, the third chapter of the game – Foundry – sees Doom Slayer hunting demons within a sweltering industrial landscape full of lava.

If he falls into the molten substance, he’ll sink slowly while giving the player a thumbs-up, just as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 does to his surrogate son – Edward Furlong’s John Connor – at the end of Cameron’s blockbuster.

Of course, it’s more amusing than affective in this instance, and it’s a lovely way for developer id Software to pay homage to the legacy of Terminator 2.

In fact, they brought it back in 2020’s Doom Eternal!
