20 Great Video Games That Everybody Turned Against

1. MultiVersus (2024)

Warner love nothing more than to stuff their IPs full of one and other – just look at the hideous, bulging monstrosity that is Space Jam: A New Legacy. But they really hit critical mass in free-to-play crossover game MultiVersus two years ago. The game brings together famous faces from across the, uhh, Warnersphere(?), including Batman, Superman, Bugs Bunny, Finn and Jake, Arya Stark, Gizmo, Neo and just about anyone else you can imagine for a side-scrolling battle royale super game.

And, against all odds, it worked. MultiVersus had a wildly successful beta with large player numbers and an overwhelmingly positive response from even the corners of the gaming world that ought to have hated its guts. It went on to become the most-played game on Steam, and yet developer Player First failed to listen to the community. The audience was invested, but WB once again viewed this as solely a money-making operation.

The game’s many, many purchase points became prohibitive, all the while the features and updates that the fans requested were duly ignored. This led to a rapid doom spiral, with the money drying up and the support thinning out, and Warner ultimately called time just a year after the game’s full release.

What was, and what could have been…
