20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About GTA

10. Rockstar Loves Mocking The Rival Driver Franchise

A few short years after the GTA series began, the rival Driver franchise launched to considerable acclaim, before a string of mediocre sequels and startling lack of ambition caused it to be surpassed by the vastly superior 3D Universe iterations of the GTA franchise. Rockstar have taken the opportunity to poke fun at Driver over the years, the first being GTA III's mission called Two-Faced Tanner (in reference to Driver's protagonist, also named Tanner). In the pre-mission cut-scene, Tanner is said to be "strangely animated", and "totally useless outside of his car", in reference to the clunky on-foot animations in Driver 2 and how gameplay outside of the cars was so heavily criticised. To boot, Rockstar gave the character a feminine running animation for extra humiliation. Then, in the Vice City mission Autocide, one of your assassination targets is named Dick Tanner, and in San Andreas, during one mission the player can see a character playing a video game and mocking it, stating, "This sucks! I mean, how could Refractions (a parody of Driver's developer, Reflections Interactive) mess up so bad? Tanner, you suck a**"
