You should totally still play Dark Souls to see where this genre found its legs (Demon's Souls is a tad outdated these days), though Nioh bolsters everything great about the series by adding a number of awesome innovations.

Now instead of just being able to summon other players who died in their respective game worlds, you can fight them to obtaining their loot if you're successful. Basic combat now has three stances per weapon, a Familiarity stat governing how much you've stuck to one type, and a few customisable contextual attacks and defence options to make your character even more unique.
