OK, we know what most of you are thinking: "What the heck is an Aegis Rim?" The rest of you are likely wondering "Wait, didn't this come out in 2020?"
Answering the last question first, yes it did! 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a visual novel/RTS hybrid that came out on the PS4 in 2020, and will be re-released on the Switch in 2022. To which we say: huzzah! 13 Sentinels topped many a "Most Underappreciated Games of the Year" list back in 2020, which tells us two things: It was (and is) bloody fantastic, and not enough people bought the damn thing.
Melding heartwarming high-school romance with high-concept sci-fi, 13 Sentinels is one of the greatest visual novels ever created. Its time-skipping plot heads off in some breathtakingly audacious directions, and by the end of the game's 35 hour runtime you will have fallen hard for its cast. (Especially Takatoshi, the yakisoba pan obsessed soldier).
The Switch's handheld nature makes it perfect for visual novels, and 13 Sentinels will hopefully reach the audience it deserves this time round. To answer the question "What the heck is an Aegis Rim?", we can only say: Buy it and find out! You'll be thankful you did.
