A new JRPG from the minds behind the Persona series is always going to turn gamers' heads like the derrière-appreciating boyfriend in that one meme, and the absurdly-monikered Metaphor: ReFantazio looks every bit as eye-catching as its impossibly stylish predecessors.
Despite the shift from ATLUS' traditional real-world settings to the steampunk fantasy land of Euchronia, the developer's trademark sense of style has survived the move intact. As has the Persona game's time-management system, as ReFantazio gives the player a year to gather support for an upcoming tournament which will decide the next ruler of the kingdom.
Intriguingly, this means going on the campaign trail, with the player having to spend their limited time gathering votes alongside the more traditional RPG activities of dungeon-exploring and monster-bashing. And that's before getting to more eclectic activities like cooking meals, hanging out with party members and bombing around town on a steampunk skateboard.
Metaphor: ReFantazio looks to be a hugely successful iteration of the Persona formula, and that should be enough to get any RPG fan excited.
