Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date: TBD, 2026

Onimusha fans have been waiting too damn long for a new game - since 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, in fact - but Capcom sure looks like they mean business with the impending Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

More-or-less a franchise reboot, Way of the Sword follows samurai Miyamoto Musashi (whose likeness is modelled after legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune) as he explores a twisted rendition of Kyoto during the Edo period, battles swordsmen and demons alike, and harvests their souls for his own gain.

While the reveal trailer led many to assume that Capcom had gone the Souls-like route with Onimusha, the developer has clarified that while Way of the Sword features more patient, deliberate combat than the previous games, it's designed to be more accessible and less punishing than a Souls-like.

Capcom has also confirmed that it will be a largely linear 20-hour experience, which is surely music to the ears of anyone exhausted by the length of your average AAA action-adventure game nowadays.
