Boyfriend Dungeon is a dungeon-crawling dating sim released in 2021 in which players battle monsters while dating people who have the ability to transform into sentient weapons. Sure, why the hell not?

The game was broadly well-received by critics upon launch, though swiftly received backlash for a content warning which some players felt was inadequate for informing players of the story's more triggering topics - especially stalking and abuse.

Developer Kitfox Games apologised and revised the content warning to be more descriptive, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. 

Some fans continually hassled Kitfox to remove the stalker storyline entirely, which they did not, and Alexander Gross, who voices the game's primary antagonist Eric, was subjected to a fan harassment campaign simply for the act of playing a despicable character.

All in all the discourse around Boyfriend Dungeon's content ended up overshadowing the fact that it's a bold, well-written game.
