20 Most Critically Adored Horror Video Games Of All Time

6. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly

Doom 3
Tecmo

Rating: 84

Japanese horror is utterly unique and it's helped inspire many of the titles found on this critically acclaimed list; Fatal Frame II shows just how terrifying Japan's idea of horror can be.

Fatal Frame's gameplay revolves around the use of photography - it acts as a weapon against ghostly spirits as well as a means of capturing the paranormal on film. Of course, this means the player spends much of Fatal Frame II in a first-person perspective looking through a tiny lens... It's not going to end well.

Infamously terrifying, Fatal Frame II's simple but effective gameplay is paramount to its horror experience - photography fans might end up scarred for life.
