When it comes to shooters from the early 2000s, few are as highly revered as TimeSplitters 2.

Helmed by UK-based studio Free Radical Design, this 2002 entry sees players hop between various time periods as they chase down the titular aliens and put a stop to their schemes. Whether it's sneaking through a Siberian dam that holds supernatural secrets, gathering intel in a futuristic Tokyo, or exploring a gothic Notre Dame overrun with the undead, each level was wildly different from the last and bursting with irresistible charm.

With many of the developers previously working on GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, TimeSplitters 2's gameplay was fine-tuned and incredibly fun to play. Alongside its outstanding story mode, this sequel also featured addictive multiplayer and challenge modes that made for hours of delightfully silly co-op goodness.

Fans have been dreaming of a TimeSplitters remake for years. However, in a cruel twist of fate, one almost came into existence. Before Free Radical Design closed in 2023, they were working on an expanded remake. It was set to contain some new levels as well as a handful from threequel Future Imperfect.

As of now, the project remains cancelled, and fans are no closer to getting this long-awaited remake.
