20 PS2 Games That Prove It's The Best Console Ever

11. Resident Evil 4

GTA: San Andreas Follow the train
Capcom

Yeah, yeah, Resident Evil 4 technically debuted as a Gamecube exclusive, but it's a testament to the significance of the PS2 that the game has become directly tied to Sony's console in the years since. Not only a revolution for its own franchise but for he entire third-person action genre, the sequel set the bar for just about every shooter going forward.

However it's the elements which make it distinctly a Resident Evil game that make it something special, outside of the pure mechanical joy of the gameplay.

The blend of unrelenting oh-my-god-my-head's-going-to-be-chopped-off-by-a-chainsaw-weilding-maniac terror and the surreal comedy that comes from chasing a guy dressed as Napoleon around a haunted mansion should not have worked under any circumstances, but it gave the game a sense of personality that couldn't be replicated. Even by Capcom on future sequels.

Also if you somehow haven't played it, you can pick it now on any consoles as it's been re-released more times than Skyrim.
