19. Dormin - Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus sees protagonist Wander attempting to resurrect a fallen girl named Mono by making a deal with the shadowy entity called Dormin.
If Wander can destroy the sixteen colossi wandering the lands, then Mono will be resurrected.
But after slaying all of the colossi, many of which were simply minding their own business until you pestered them, we learn that Dormin is actually an ancient entity who has been rendered powerless by his essence being scattered among the sixteen colossi.
By killing all of the creatures, Wander breaks Dormin's imprisonment, freeing him once again to wreak havoc, much to the frustration of the locals who evidently fought hard to keep Dormin at bay.
Dormin is obviously a total monster, but his scheme was extremely smart - to manipulate some grieving little urchin into setting him free by promising him the one thing he wanted most in the world.
Needless to say, if Wander had been a little quicker getting the job done and the shaman Lord Emon didn't reach the pair in time, Dormin's plan would've worked flawlessly.
