19 Things Video Game Fans Are SICK Of

8. Sony

As your keen, WhatCulture reading brain has already surmised, the picture adorning this article entry was created two years ago. Yet this writer includes it here as a rueful reminder of the halcyon days of 2024, when it seemed as though Sony's treatment of PlayStation couldn't get any worse.

How innocent we were.

Since then, Sony have gone almost made it a mission to generate as much hostility to the PlayStation brand as possible. The big one was the decision to end physical media for PlayStation releases, ensuring Sony's own PlayStation store would be the only way to purchase PS titles from 2028 onwards. Somehow, Sony failed to foresee the ensuing tidal wave of calamitous PR that followed (not helped when the company subsequently advertised a new turntable by stating vinyl is " the way music is meant to be heard").

It's especially frustrating because Sony know how to be the good guy. When Microsoft tried similar strongarm tactics to curtail physical media back in 2013, Sony responded with a clip showing two PlayStation executives sharing a game disc to let PS4 owners know that their games were theirs to keep.

Owners of a PS5 (and presumably PS6), however, will no longer have that luxury.
