20 Trailers So Bad They KILLED Video Games

6. DmC: Devil May Cry

DMC Devil May Cry Dante

Despite Devil May Cry's popularity, it's understandable why Capcom wanted to reinvent the demonic hack-and-slash. Every instalment upped the ante, to the point where Devil May Cry was slowly but surely becoming a parody of itself (especially when Dante started surfing on missiles and crossing oversized swords with butt-smacking jesters). Even though Devil May Cry 4 was well-received, the studio believed it was time for the IP to do something bold.

So when the trailer for DmC: Devil May Cry dropped, the first thing it did was reveal a broody, edgier Dante, devoid of his trademark long white locks. Even though the gameplay played the same, Dante's drastic redesign in the trailer suggested Devil May Cry was shifting focus.

Despite receiving great reviews, DmC only earned a third of its predecessor. For this reason, Capcom took a back-to-basics approach for Devil May Cry 5, having Dante once again depicted as a cocky, wisecracking badass.

Love for Devil May Cry seems to be stronger than ever, which is why it's a shame the marketing behind DmC gave the fanbase the wrong idea.
