The most frustrating thing about false advertising is how viewers usually don't realise they're being conned until they play the games themselves, as can be established from Dead Island and Alien Colonial Marines.

However, eagle-eyed viewers saw through the lies of Mortal Kombat 1's promotions straight away. Due to its next-gen graphics, Nintendo fans were skeptical how the MK reboot would run on the Nintendo Switch, especially since the previous instalment suffered frame-rate issues on the same system. Now, these worries were supposedly put to rest when the teaser for MK1 showed the Nintendo port running smoothly.

But during a gameplay reveal, a Steam Achievement appeared in the bottom-right of the screen, proving the footage wasn't being played on a Switch. Nintendo tried to cover their tracks by taking the clip down the following day, but it was too little too late.

The Steam Achievement only popped up for a second, but it was enough to keep pre-order sales on the Nintendo system to a minimum. Mortal Kombat 1 ended up being among the worst Switch ports of all time, proving the concerns surrounding the gameplay reveal were warranted.
