As mentioned in the earlier Pragmata entry, Capcom has been on a roll lately when it comes to reviving legacy IP. Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter: World, Street Fighter 6, and Devil May Cry 5 all rejuvenated their respective franchises, turning fading names into peak series entries that climbed the sales charts and regained cultural relevance.

Onimusha is their long-dormant IP that sadly sputtered out near the tail end of the PS2 era. Essentially Resident Evil with swords and magic, it delivered four strong games with barely a misstep (aside from that Jean Reno subplot), but market interest eventually dried up and the series slipped into obscurity.

This reboot aims to breathe new life into the slumbering franchise, built in the gorgeous RE Engine and promising a sharp blend of old-school structure with modern polish. While a flood of similarly themed games threatens to burn out the appeal of samurai-versus-demons gameplay, we can’t forget that this franchise was the originator, finally coming home to roost.

All fair points - but to stand a real chance it will need to steer clear of GTA 6’s launch window. Current market thirst for Onimusha is still a gamble, and the series deserves a release slot where it can shine on its own.
