20 Video Game Enemies Designed To RUIN Your Day

14. Winter Lanterns - Bloodborne

Winter Lantern - Bloodborne
FromSoftware

Much like the Souls games that spawned it, Bloodborne is a game that's bursting at its sinewy seams with grotesque monsters that want nothing more than to feast on your innards.

There's plenty to choose from, from the terrifying Brainsucker to the imposing Giant Snake Ball, but whilst those enemies are difficult to deal with, it's the late-game Winter Lanterns that are perhaps the most infuriating of them all.

Upon finding them, the Winter Lanterns alert you to their presence with their ethereal, otherworldly singing, giving you a chance to try and plan a sneak attack. Should they spot you however, you'll be in for a world of hurt.

They immediately begin inflicting Frenzy, a status effect that stacks very quickly and when it hits its zenith, inflicts an incredibly large amount of damage on the player. It is possible to run away from them and let the Frenzy ticker dwindle down, but that will only get you so far. Instead you have to rely on nearby hiding spots to avoid their gaze but that's ultimately much easier said than done.
