20 Video Game Movie and TV Moments That INSULTED Fans
1. The Singing - A Minecraft Movie (2025)
A Minecraft Movie is a rare video game adaptation, insomuch as it knows how bad it is and seems to actively lean into it. The block-based game was always going to make for a janky big screen feature, whether animated or live action, and director Jared Hess and the film’s five (five!) writers opted to take the kitchen sink approach and make it live action and animated, achieving the worst of both worlds.
A Minecraft Movie follows a troupe of four rejects from Chuglass, Idaho – Natalie, Dawn, Henry and Garrett (Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen and Jason Momoa) – who journey through a portal and find themselves in the cubic Minecraft world. Fighting for their freedom, they embark on a quest with the help of long-time crafter Steve (Jack Black), while the malevolent Malgosha (Rachel House/Allan Henry), piglin ruler of the Nether, works against them.
Despite being one of the worst things put to film this century, the film sold well, scoring nearly a billion dollars at the box office, and spawning an endless barrage of memes. But, in an already way-too-much-to-take movie, the most egregiously too-much-to-take element is the songs: smattered throughout the film are irritating little songs concocted by Steve, including the infamous “Steve’s Lava Chicken” – not exactly a great representation of the games.
But then, if you’re going to hire Jack Black, you’re going to expect him to do the thing. Perhaps we should just be thankful Claptrap didn’t do any numbers about crapping bullets.
