20 Video Game NPCs You CAN'T Afford To Lose
7. Little Sisters - Bioshock
Bioshock sets itself apart from other first-person shooters thanks to its unique Plasmid mechanic that allows you to unlock supernatural abilities, letting you switch between regular guns and fun bioengineered powers.
The way you obtain new Plasmid powers in-game is by finding them or purchasing them with ADAM. The way you get more ADAM is by harvesting them from Little Sisters—the creepy girls that accompany Big Daddies scattered throughout the game.
Each of the twenty-one Little Sisters in the game can be either killed and harvested or rescued. Depending on your choice, you get different rewards from them. Rescuing Little Sisters gives 80 ADAM plus a small gift for every three Little Sisters spared, while killing them is much more profitable, giving you twice as much ADAM to use however you want.
From a pure gameplay perspective, harvesting the Little Sisters is the best way to get powerful fast, but it does come with some serious consequences.
Aside from missing the unique powers you get for rescuing several Little Sisters, the ending of the game is dependent on whether or not you spared them.
If you rescued Little Sisters, they come in the epilogue to save you, and you get the good ending. If you let them die, you get the bad ending and the deep, overwhelming sense of shame.
