Fire Emblem: Awakening is a turn-based strategy game that mixes warfare with romance. Your soldier can develop relationships on the battlefield and then even end up having children together.

In most battles, you focus on keeping your teammates alive while completely decimating the enemy soldiers at every turn you get.

However, there are exceptions, one of which is Gaius.

Gaius is an enemy in the mission “Foreseer” that can be secretly turned into a companion. Although the game treats him like one of the enemy thieves who attempt to break into Emmeryn’s chamber, the man can be secretly spoken with when you approach him and interact with him.

After a quick discussion, it turns out that Gaius wants little to do with the enemy soldiers trying to kill Emmeryn, and he gladly decides to switch sides, permanently joining you as a companion (provided he survives until the end of the mission).

Given that Gaius can be the father of the possible future children that you can recruit into your army in the second half of the game, it’s best to keep your impulses in check and not immediately go for the attack button the moment you see the red outlines around his character.
