20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World

4. Bayonetta 2 Is A Wii U Exclusive

Though PlatinumGames' Bayonetta remains one of the most acclaimed character action games of all time, few had genuine hopes for a sequel given that the studio freely admitted that it failed to meet their sales expectations.

But in a Nintendo Direct in September 2012, Bayonetta 2 was formally announced, and in case that somehow wasn't bewildering enough, the reveal trailer concluded by confirming that it would be exclusive to Nintendo's newest console, the Wii U.

Though this was Nintendo's prerogative as they funded the game, it naturally frustrated many Bayonetta fans who'd played the original game on either the PS3 or Xbox 360, unaided by the lackluster reception to the Wii U itself.

Bayonetta 2 launched in September 2014, but it wasn't until early 2018 that, in lieu of the Wii U flopping, Nintendo finally ported it to the Switch.

Making the sequel exclusive to flop hardware is a move that could've easily killed the franchise dead, but the Switch port ultimately sold well enough for a third game to be released in 2022.
