20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World
1. Final Fantasy XIII For Xbox 360
And finally, silly though it might seem today, back in 2008 Final Fantasy was a firmly PlayStation-first franchise, with none of the mainline games having been released on Xbox systems.
Many believed that would never change, but at E3 2008 Microsoft caused quite the online kerfuffle when they announced that Final Fantasy XIII would be releasing on Xbox 360 the very same day that it launched for PS3.
The news sent shockwaves throughout both the Final Fantasy fandom and the wider gaming sphere, as many considered it a major blow for Sony, who were still reeling from the PS3's less-than-stellar launch.
Beyond bringing out the usual console warriors to slung mud at the other "side," it also signalled a major shift in Square Enix's publishing priorities as they pursued a more global, multi-platform strategy.
Even with all the online hand-wringing about such a move "alienating" the Japanese market, it was certainly proven to be a smart decision long-term.
