20 Video Game Villains That SHOULDN'T Have Died
18. The Joker - Batman: Arkham City
There are few deaths more polarising in video games than the shock demise of The Joker in Batman: Arkham City, because after all, the Clown Prince of Crime is such a statuesque, enduring comic book villain - arguably the comic book villain to rule them all - that it seemed basically sacrilegious to take him off the chess board.
After all, what is Batman without the unrelenting opposing force that's dogged him all those years?
And that's perhaps why The Joker's presence still looms large in both prequel Batman: Arhkam Origins and sequel Batman: Arkham Knight, manifesting in the latter as a series of hallucinations.
At which point you have to wonder why they killed him off at all beyond the mere shock value of it.
If you're going to genuinely kill The Joker so the franchise can focus on other antagonists instead, it's probably best to commit fully to it rather than have him continue to linger on the periphery.
But it's tough to blame Rocksteady too much, because of course the character is just too damn incredible to resist using.
